Introducing the new BWFH logo: Do not alter the logo

Our new icon and logo should not be copied or altered for any purpose. A rebrand team is supporting the rollout of the new logo and will be reaching out to areas across the hospital to inventory items that need rebranding. Any item that needs rebranding will be managed centrally through this team. There is a suite of brand resources, including branded Word documents (click here for a BWFH-specific Word template) and PowerPoint templates (for a shortened BWFH-branded PowerPoint template, click here) available on The Pulse, as well as more information about how to properly use the logo. Learn more about the brand support and approval process on here.

Announcements

Thank you for sharing your opinions in the Employee Engagement Survey

This spring, more than 750 (52 percent) of you took the time to share your opinions by completing the Employee Engagement Survey. Your confidential responses are being compiled by our survey partner, Press Ganey. We expect to receive results in late August. We look forward to sharing those results with you, celebrating our strengths and launching new efforts to improve upon our employee engagement experience in ways that are most meaningful to you. We are also putting in place resources to help managers understand their team results and respond appropriately. We are grateful that so many of you participated. Your input will help us better understand the current state of our workplace and determine where to focus our improvement efforts.

Reminder: Employee parking permitted only in assigned locations

In recent weeks, we have noticed an increased number of vehicles parked outside of their assigned locations. In addition, all Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital employees who are assigned parking onsite or at one of our offsite parking lots must communicate any updated vehicle information to the Parking Department. All employees are required to affix a parking permit sticker, issued by the Parking Department, to the driver’s side back door window. Vehicles parked in violation are subject to ticketing and possible towing. To read the hospital’s full Parking Policy, which includes instructions for completing your Parking Application, click here. If you have any questions about your parking assignment, please reach out to Dave Haggerty, Parking Manager, at djhaggerty@partners.org or 617-983-4704.

Safety highlight of the week

Recently, a safety report was submitted regarding heparin drip-rate. A patient was admitted to the 7 North location from another location in the hospital. The first location had started a heparin drip. The unit nurse cross checked the IV pump infusion rate that was running upon the patient’s admission to the floor. The RN found a discrepancy in the rate set on the IV pump. Read the complete edition of Last Week In Patient Safety (intranet).

Reminder: Keep your personal items safe and secure

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Police, Security, Safety and Parking Department reminds all staff to be mindful of where you store your personal items while at work. BWFH is not responsible for lost or stolen items, so please keep any and all valuables in a secure place, such as a locked desk drawer or locker, while not in use.

Update: Employee Travel Policy during the COVID-19 pandemic

The Employee Travel Policy during the COVID-19 pandemic has been updated to remove the prohibition for work-related international travel for fully vaccinated employees. Work-related domestic and international travel prohibition for non-fully vaccinated employees remains in effect. All employees who travel internationally for personal or work-related reasons must comply with the CDC’s country-specific guidance, including recommendations related to testing and quarantine. Read the policy.

Reminder: Universal Mask Policy

  • Employees can remove facemasks without distancing in shared offices and non-clinical, non-public areas such as conference rooms and workrooms if all employees in the area are fully vaccinated and all agree to being unmasked.
  • Fully vaccinated employees may eat together without distancing.
  • Non-fully vaccinated employees must distance by 6 feet while unmasked to eat or drink.
  • See the Q&A for guidance on how to respectfully learn about colleague’s masking and distancing needs and preferences.
  • A hospital-issued facemask continues to be required in all common/public areas and all clinical areas. Our Universal Mask Policy applies to patients and visitors regardless of vaccination status.

Facility density and in-person gatherings update

  • Masking is still required in all waiting rooms, but COVID-19-related occupancy limits and distancing requirements will be retired. Local leaders will make decisions regarding furniture placement, plexiglass use and alternate waiting options to ensure patients and visitors feel comfortable.
  • Occupancy limits in elevators and conference rooms have returned to pre-pandemic maximums.
  • Many of the temporary dining areas are being reverted to their original function as conference rooms or public waiting areas.
  • Fully vaccinated employees may interact and hold meetings while unmasked in non-public, non-clinical areas, including conference rooms and work rooms, so long as the following requirements are met:
    • All employees in the conference room or work room must be fully vaccinated and agree to being unmasked.
    • Online options for meetings continue to be encouraged. Meeting attendees should participate in the way they feel most comfortable.
    • Communal food can be shared in designated areas with good hand hygiene practices.
    • Additional guidance for meetings can be found in the Q&A
