Weight Management Counseling

Get off the frustrating roller coaster of endless diets and “cleanses” only to regain the weight that you worked so hard to lose. Our experienced and compassionate Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) will guide you on how to not only lose excess weight permanently but to live with health, strength, vitality and respect for your body.

Many insurance plans cover the cost of weight management counseling with a doctor’s referral and if your body mass index (BMI) is 25 or higher, which classifies you as overweight or obese. To calculate your BMI, use this online tool from the Centers for Disease Control.

What Should I Ask My Insurance?

Follow these steps before making an appointment with us:

  • Call the toll-free member number on your insurance card. Ask if nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian is covered and, if so, how many visits are covered. If they request it, our National Provider ID (NPI) is 1578677811.
  • List any medical conditions you have including being overweight or obese, which may determine coverage.
  • Ask if a referral from your primary care physician (PCP) is required. If yes, and:
    • Your PCP is affiliated with Partners, you do not need to obtain a referral. We will process it for you.
    • Your doctor is outside Partners, call your doctor to obtain the referral. Provide them with our NPI number listed above.
  • If your insurance does not cover nutrition visits, call the Nutrition Clinic for our self-pay rate or to be added to our mailing list for future weight management classes that are offered at reasonable costs.

What Should I Expect?

We offer two options:

  1. The Eat Program, a structured 3-month weight loss program that stands for Evidence-based, Action-driven and Taste-centered. It requires your insurance to cover 6 nutrition visits over one year. The program includes close guidance by an RDN, simple meal plans, 3 different body measurements, food tracking, goal setting, use of the latest diet and exercise apps, behavioral change strategies, implementation of an exercise regimen and weekly check-ins by email or phone. At the completion of the program, you will be eligible to receive discounts for our group weight management classes that enroll twice a year.
  2. Lifestyle Nutrition Plan. This plan is tailored for patients who desire a more flexible nutrition and wellness program. A minimum of 3 nutrition visits is suggested, with which you will be provided:
    • Measurement of weight and waist circumference
    • Calculation of calorie and protein needs
    • Sample menu tailored to your preferences
    • Evaluation of vitamins and other supplements that you may be using (if any)
    • Easy recipe and menu ideas
    • Assistance with creating short and long-term goals including a realistic goal weight
    • Assistance with use of food apps or other online tracking tools
    • Assistance with creating an exercise regimen
