Preparing for Your Surgery

Preoperative Evaluation

Preoperative Evaluation: What to Expect

The nurses at the Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation work in partnership with the Department of Anesthesia and your medical care providers to assess your medical needs and ensure your safety for surgery. You will not be meeting with an anesthesiologist during your pre-operative evaluation, however, your nurse practitioner will work with the anesthesia team to make sure that you’re ready for surgery.

A nurse from the Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation will call you at a designated time to review your health history, give you information about preparing for surgery and assist you with any questions you may have.

Please have the following available to you at the time of your call:

  • A list of medications you are currently taking, the dosages and the names and numbers of the prescribers.
  • If you see any medical specialists like a cardiologist or hematologist, please be sure that you have seen them and that they have completed any testing you need to be ready for surgery and have provided you with any special instructions you may need.
