Risk Management and Clinical Compliance welcomes new staff

The Department of Risk Management and Clinical Compliance at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is pleased to welcome two new staff members. Allyson Hammerstedt, Esq., joins the team as Senior Risk Manager and Marina Lomoro has taken on the role of Risk Management and Patient Safety Project Coordinator/Office Manager for the department.

Hammerstedt comes to BWFH from a local medical malpractice defense firm where she focused her practice on the representation of healthcare professionals and institutions in medical malpractice actions and before regulatory boards, agencies and committees. Her areas of practice also included healthcare law, product and premises liability and civil and commercial litigation. She is a graduate of New England Law Boston (JD) and The Catholic University of America where she earned her bachelor of arts degree in Political Science with minors in Philosophy and French.

Here at BWFH, Hammerstedt is charged with helping clinicians identify risk to reduce liability and promote patient safety, as well as provide support should they face a malpractice suit or have a claim or credentialing issue. “I have always enjoyed working with the medical community. I have a lot of respect for clinicians and the work that they do,” she says. “I enjoyed that aspect of my role at the firm where I was helping caregivers when they were in a vulnerable situation. But I often found myself doing a lot of damage control and realized that I wanted to use my skills to get ahead of the issues and hopefully make a difference in the healthcare community.”

Hammerstedt says she looks forward to doing just that in her new role. “I want to be a helpful resource to the clinical staff here and do what I can to provide support to them when they need it,” she says.

Outside of work, Hammerstedt keeps active with Bikram yoga and spending time with her 10-year-old Australian cattle dog named Hannah. “We like walking and running by the water,” she says. “Even though it’s cold right now, we still enjoy getting out together. We grin and bear it!”

Lomoro earned her bachelor of arts degree in Legal Studies at Suffolk University and worked as a paralegal before making the move to the healthcare industry. Most recently, she worked as Quality Management Specialist at Massachusetts Behavioral Health Partnership (MBHP).

As Office Manager, Lomoro does payroll and finance for the department and works with RL Solutions, coordinating patient flagging requests and Collaborative Case Reviews. “I also work with Ellucid. I am the resource for downloading, uploading and retiring all hospital policies,” she says. “If you have any questions about policies, you can ask me!”

After just two months on the job, Lomoro says she is happy with her decision to join the team at BWFH.  “I like the vibe of the hospital and how we all try to improve things, as well as the collaborative nature of the role,” she says. “I came from a small office, so being part of a big organization is a nice change.”

Outside of work, Lomoro enjoys trying new restaurants with friends, painting and cooking. She also sings in her church choir and enjoys long distance swimming.
