Policy Update: Access to Family Electronic Health Records

Since April of 2019 we have had a policy in place that allows workforce members to access electronic health records (EHR) of adult family members with a specific written authorization from the patient for the purpose of assisting in their care. That policy has been implemented across all Mass General Brigham sites. There have been slight changes to the policy and the corresponding authorization form. Please view the policy and the new form.

If you have questions, contact the Brigham Health Privacy Office by emailing BWHCHIPAA@partners.org or calling 617-582-5201.

Primary Care Leadership Awards

The Primary Care Leadership Awards are peer-nominated awards that recognize the hard work and inspirational leadership of our colleagues. We invite you to think of your team members and specialists who you feel should be honored for their contributions to primary care. The most powerful nominations are stories about your nominee going above and beyond during the pandemic, going the extra mile to help a patient or colleague, or doing exceptional work every day.  Please click here to submit your nominations by August 7.

Biomedical Services Update

As of December 31, 2020, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital will transition to Brigham Biomedical Engineering support.  We anticipate a seamless transition as the Brigham Biomedical Engineering team learns our systems and our care environment.

We are grateful Julia Shannon and the entire TRIMEDX Biomed group for the support of our clinical activities.  They have provided years of incredibly responsive, high quality service in our clinical areas and will continue to support us through this transition.

Ed Pitts, Executive Director of Support Services, Michael Fraai, BWH’s Executive Director of Biomedical Engineering, Peggy Duggan, Chief Medical Officer, are working to create a smooth transition. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

COVID-19 Updates

Face Shield Update

Some employees may have inadvertently been given a half face shield instead of a full face shield from the PPE Distribution center. We are no longer handing out the half face shields and have replaced our supply with the full face shields.  If you need a full face shield, please visit the distribution center anytime between 6 am – 11:30 pm.

Online Prescreen for Patients and Visitors Now Available

In order to streamline the screening process at BWFH, we have integrated the Mass General Brigham Prescreen for patients and visitors. Mass General Brigham Prescreen is an online symptom and risk screening tool for all patients and visitors entering a Mass General Brigham facility. Patients and visitors will be required to complete the screening on the day of their visit prior to being allowed entry into the hospital.  Please encourage your patients and visitors to utilize this tool to make their entry into the hospital more efficient: https://prescreen.massgeneralbrigham.org.

For Clinicians: Updates to Mass General Brigham COVID-19 Related Policies

We regularly review COVID-19-related clinical policies to ensure that they reflect the best available published guidance and take into account the current clinical situation at our institutions. Policy decisions are made collaboratively and are based on ongoing risk-assessments of the evolving COVID-19 pandemic. On July 10, updates were made to the testing criteria. Moving forward, updates will be sent out only when changes have been made. For a list of current active policies and associated guidance documents, visit the COVID-19 clinical policies site.
