Moving to Microsoft Edge as default browser systemwide by July 1

Microsoft Edge is the latest web browser from Microsoft. Microsoft Edge will become the default web browser replacing Internet Explorer on Mass General Brigham Windows 10 private and mobile computers. Implementation started on June 11 and will run through July 1. You can expect to see these changes:

  • Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome will open in the same homepage currently used with Internet Explorer.
  • Partners Applications and Utilities will automatically open in Microsoft Edge.

Helpful Tips:

Opening Microsoft Edge

The easiest way to open Microsoft Edge is to click the desktop shortcut.

Other Browsers

While the default browser will change to Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer 11 and Google Chrome will continue to be available for use.

Using your Internet Explorer Favorites in Microsoft Edge

If you would like to import your Internet Explorer Favorites into Microsoft Edge, please refer to knowledge article KB0038709 INFO: Overview of Microsoft Edge.

Changing your Default Browser

Although Microsoft Edge will be set as the new default browser, you will be able to change the default to a browser of your choice after July 2 when all computers have received the update.

If you have questions or need assistance, open a ticket at the IS Service Hub.

Important update regarding outbound phone calls

This summer, our Mass General Brigham telephone systems will be updated. With this update, you will no longer need to dial 1 before the area code when making outbound calls from a Mass General Brigham phone. These updates will be introduced gradually, starting in early July with phones located at Assembly Row. All phone system updates will be complete by the end of August. You will be notified by your local facility when this update will happen at your location. For more information, click here

Nuclear Medicine Hepatobiliary scans

COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 vaccine requirement for employees

Based on the research, data and trends, Mass General Brigham has made the decision to require all Mass General Brigham employees be vaccinated against COVID-19 once the FDA has granted approval of one of the three vaccines. We will inform you of specific dates as soon as available. This step to require the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment is consistent with our approach to the flu vaccine requirement. Given the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines and the outlined mandated vaccination policy, we strongly encourage those employees who have not yet been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible. If you have already received a COVID-19 vaccine, you do not need to be vaccinated again, and at this time no booster shot is required. For more information, read Mass General Brigham’s Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccine FAQs.

Questions about the COVID-19 vaccine? Ask a Badge Buddy

While the vaccines are safe, and they protect you, your family and friends, many colleagues still have questions. If you need answers, simply look for a colleague wearing a badge that says “Ask Me About the COVID-19 Vaccine.”

COVID-19 vaccinations for new (and current) employees available through Occupational Health beginning July 1

The Occupational Health Services team is launching a pilot to provide COVID-19 vaccines to new and current Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital employees who are interesting in receiving the vaccine at the Occupational Health clinic on the 7th floor.

  • Vaccine appointments are available on a limited basis beginning July 1.
  • Effective immediately, employees who are interested in getting the vaccine can call Occupational Health at 617-983-4628 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Reminder: Universal Mask Policy remains in effect

Mass General Brigham recently announced changes to our Universal Mask Policy that went into effect on June 15 allowing for unmasking in certain areas under selected conditions. Please review these guidelines for further clarification:

  • Employees can remove facemasks without distancing in shared offices and non-clinical, non-public areas such as conference rooms and workrooms if all employees in the area are fully vaccinated and all agree to being unmasked.
  • Fully vaccinated employees may eat together without distancing.
  • Non-fully vaccinated employees must distance by 6 feet while unmasked to eat or drink.
  • See the Q&A for guidance on how to respectfully learn about colleague’s masking and distancing needs and preferences.
  • A hospital-issued facemask continues to be required in all common/public areas and all clinical areas. Our Universal Mask Policy applies to patients and visitors regardless of vaccination status.
