Brigham Vice President of Peri-Procedural Services joins BWFH leadership team

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure alignment and efficiency across all Brigham sites of care, endoscopy and infusion programs and operations at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital will report to Ethan Parten, Brigham Vice President of Peri-Procedural Services. This change in endoscopy leadership was effective April 1, and infusion will transition on June 1, 2022. Read more.

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital recently welcomed Heer Patel in the role of Project Manager for Patient Safety. Patel is a 2021 graduate of UMass Lowell where she earned her bachelor of science degree in Public Health. She first came to BWFH as a summer intern. Read more.

Every day, office supplies—including paper, toner, binders, staples and more—sit unused in offices across our organization. Recently, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Emerging Leaders Committee gave staff the opportunity to reduce, reuse and recycle those products with their Office Supply Swap. Read more.

The drawbacks of using alcohol to cope

Stress levels have been on the rise and more people have been using alcohol to cope. Alcohol provides immediate, temporary relief but is not a good long-term solution. Regular (even moderate) use of alcohol will likely worsen the very problems which prompt us to have a drink in the first place. This can lead to more stress and health problems. To recognize Alcohol Awareness Month, the EAP has once again teamed up with John Kelly, PhD, an MGH addiction expert, for an EAP news feature. Dr. Kelly discusses why using alcohol to cope represents a number of significant risks, and how to identify and incorporate healthier, more successful alternatives.

BWFH celebrates Psychology Week - through April 23

This week, we celebrate Psychology Week. From helping people cope with mental health challenges to conducting cutting-edge research that helps address some of the world’s most pressing issues, psychologists do important work every single day. Here at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, psychologists can be found on our inpatient unit and in our outpatient services, where they make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. This week is an opportunity to say, “Thank you!”

Getting to work just got easier! New, larger shuttle bus and an improved schedule to ease overcrowding

For some time now, our shuttle buses have been overcrowded during the most important commute times. That’s about to change with our brand-new, much larger, shuttle bus! The new bus, which went into service this week, features a comfortable interior with room everyone. And the new schedule is designed to increase capacity during peak hours.

Patient Experience Week 2022 Donation Drive - April 25 to 29

At Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, we support our patients in more ways than one. Patients often need clothing and sneakers to go home in after we care for their medical needs. Inpatients also benefit from a good book to distract them from their medical concerns. This Patient Experience Week, help us by donating to our patient Clothing and Book Program. For a list of needed items, click here. Donations can be Dropped off in the Chapel at any time during the week of April 25 to 29, or visit us on Tuesday, April 26, from 12 noon to 1 pm outside of the Cafeteria!

Dr. Norman L. Sadowsky Award for Excellence nomination period now open

The Dr. Norman L. Sadowsky Award for Excellence goes to an individual who best exemplifies the qualities Dr. Sadowsky himself demonstrated throughout his more than 40 years of leadership in radiology. As a radiologist, colleague, friend, teacher, researcher and administrator, he always brought the highest levels of caring, compassion, creativity and service excellence to his work.

Susan Bezanson Patient Safety Award nomination period now open

The Susan Bezanson Patient Safety Award is presented annually to a BWFH employee who demonstrates superior levels of excellence and the same dedication to patient safety and quality assurance that Sue Bezanson exhibited. Sue’s participation on several interdisciplinary committees shed light on the vital role of ancillary services in patient care.

Register today! CPIP - Clinical Process Improvement Leadership Program

The Clinical Process Improvement Leadership Program is designed to facilitate the development of competencies needed by interprofessional frontline care teams across Mass General Brigham to actively lead and participate in clinical process improvement efforts. Participants will be charged with addressing a clinical problem in their environment. These projects will allow participants to translate theory into action. This year, priority will be given to projects that address the following areas: equity, patient experience, reducing hospital acquired infections and reducing cost of care. COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 vaccine and booster appointments for new hires and employees returning from LOA

Occupational Health continues to offer limited appointments for Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines and boosters on-site at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital for all interested employees, including new hires and employees returning from a leave of absence.

Employees can sign up for an appointment through a Microsoft Bookings page. Please see The Pulse for more information, including a tip sheet on how to schedule.

Employees who need a Johnson & Johnson or Moderna vaccine or booster are encouraged to leverage a location in their local community. There are many sites, including CVS and Walgreens, offering free booster shots. Visit vaccines.gov, mass.gov or vaccines.nh.gov to find a location near you. You can also text your zip code to 438829 or call 1-800-232-0233.

DFCI/BWH Blood Drive - April 26

The DFCI/BWH Blood Mobile, the traveling extension of the Kraft Family Blood Donation Center, will be at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital on Tuesday, April 26, from 8 am to 2:30 pm. Farewell Reception in Honor of Michael Malone, MD - April 28

Join us on Thursday, April 28, in the Mary Ann Tynan Conference Center from 4:30 to 6:30 pm for a cocktail reception in honor of Michael Malone, MD. Dr. Malone has served as Section Chief of Urology since 2014. He leaves BWFH to take on a new role as a urologist at Atrius Health. Help us wish him well in the next chapter of his career. Please join us for the seventh annual Mass General Brigham Quality & Safety Symposium on April 28 from 8 am to 12:45 pm. This virtual event will feature internal keynote speakers and brief panel presentations on quality and safety efforts from local leaders across Mass General Brigham. Highlighted initiatives will include United Against Racism, primary care, community health, patient experience, digital patient experience, quality and safety collaboratives, substance use and equity informed high reliability. Help make a difference in our community: Volunteer with your colleagues at Community Servings - May 10

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Department is seeking volunteers to help prepare meals for critically ill individuals and their families in our community. Join us on Tuesday, May 10, from 4 to 7 pm at Community Servings (179 Amory Street in Jamaica Plain) to peel, chop and package meals for Community Servings’ clients. Volunteers must be 13 years or older, vaccinated against COVID-19 (please have proof of vaccination when you arrive) and register in advance.
