Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital received approval for the Determination of Need (DoN) submission in May 2022 to begin working on a campus expansion program to better support care in our communities. Construction began in May of 2023.
On the west side of the garage, excavation work continues. Work is also ongoing on the concrete foundations and forms. At this time, continued truck traffic can be expected. The week of February 27, a crawler crane will be installed to accommodate pre-cast deliveries, which will begin on March 1. These deliveries are expected to impact traffic on Centre Street and Whitcomb Avenue through June. Police details will be in place to ensure minimal disruptions.
Work is progressing for the inpatient addition with interior work and exterior wall installation ongoing. Staff and patients should expect intermittent disruptions to the loop road during this time. Please note that beginning February 26, there will be work taking place from 3 to 9 pm, Monday through Friday in order to safely install the curtain walls.
Work for the new signaling system is pending and will be completed if weather allows this winter. Road markings including a new bicycle lane on Centre Street will follow the installation of the signaling systems. The Blue Bike station is expected to be fully in place in the spring.
Interior and Roof
Inside the hospital and on the roof, work is also underway to prepare for the new inpatient addition. Please expect that there will be increased noise and possible disturbances while construction activity continues. Individual departments within the hospital that will be directly impacted will be notified of any possible disruptions to operations ahead of time in order to properly prepare and mitigate impacts to patients, visitors and staff.
