New Brigham Health Chief of Shoulder Service to operate at BWFH

Carolyn M. Hettrich, MD, MPH, recently joined Brigham Health’s Department of Orthopaedics as Chief of Shoulder Service.

Dr. Hettrich completed her undergraduate studies at Pomona College before attending medical school at the University of Washington. She completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery, which included a one-year research fellowship. During that same time, she also obtained a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University. Later, Dr. Hettrich completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Vanderbilt University. She comes to Brigham Health from University of Kentucky HealthCare.

In the operating room here at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, Dr. Hettrich will primarily perform open shoulder procedures, including all types of shoulder replacements, muscle transfers and fracture repair. “I look forward to getting to know everyone in the OR at BWFH and working together to take excellent care of patients,” she says.

When she is not at work, Dr. Hettrick enjoys traveling, water skiing, downhill skiing and SCUBA diving. She also has an interest in photography.
