I CARE Recipient Helps Ensure Her Patient Returns Home Safely

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. The Sagoff Breast Imaging and Diagnostic Centre’s Patient Coordinator Mary Youngblood was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Youngblood was nominated for her I CARE Award by a coworker who wrote in their nomination letter:

Last night when I was leaving, I noticed my mammography patient from much earlier still waiting on the first floor. I had brought the patient down after her mammogram due to her mobility issues and asked Mary to watch for her ride. Even though I called the facility to get her an earlier pick up, she was scheduled for pickup at 3:15. Surprised to see Mary and the patient still there, Mary informed me that she has been on the phone to help out this elderly patient since the van who tried to pick her up could not accommodate her. Mary stayed to help her and watch for the ride, I believe past her end of shift time. The facility tried for a Lyft, and then tried to get a taxi. I told Mary to go to the main hospital to use the direct line. A Lyft driver appeared. I verified his identify and spoke to his supervisor to ensure this patient would return home safely. I then went to the main hospital where Mary was still trying to facilitate transportation. She went all out to help this woman and I think she should be recognized for her caring manner.

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit Vitals. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Cafe.
