5 South surgeons named among Boston magazine's Top Doctors

This year, Boston magazine’s “Top Doctors” list highlighted more than 1,600 doctors in 60 different specialties who have made a significant impact in Massachusetts. Among them were many of the surgeons from Brigham and Women’s Comprehensive Spine Center and Brigham and Women’s Orthopaedic Center, both located on 5 South at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.

For the individual surgeons who see patients at BWFH both in the clinic setting and in the operating room, it’s a great personal honor to be included on Boston magazine’s list. But more importantly, it speaks to the collaborative environment fostered in both departments.

Honoree Dr. Jay Zampini, an orthopaedic spine surgeon, points to the importance of those with whom he works each and every day. “I think it reflects on how much I enjoy what I do and how lucky I am to have a great team with my PA, administrative assistant and office staff,” he says.

Likewise, Dr. Christopher Chiodo, Chief of the Foot and Ankle Service, is grateful for his team. He says, “This is definitely an honor, but one that you can’t accomplish without the help of caring and talented colleagues. We have a great team and I’m thankful for this.”

Dr. Philip Blazar, Chief of the Hand and Upper Extremity Service, echoes both Dr. Zampini and Dr. Chiodo’s sentiments. For him, seeing so many of his colleagues on the list speaks to the quality of care provided here at BWFH. “I am proud to be part of a department with such a large number of members recognized,” he says.

Ultimately, all the surgeons on 5 South and their teams make patients their priority. Dr. John Ready, Chief of the Orthopaedic Oncology Service, says, “Patient satisfaction has been extremely high due to the committed staff providing service to my patients. It is an honor to be selected along with this great group of surgeons. However, these awards would not be possible without the dedicated team of providers involved in the care of my patients including our Harvard residents, Fellows, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, physical and occupational therapists and our medical and administrative assistants.”
