The Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

The Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (CMBS) at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital provides patients with compassionate care and comprehensive metabolic and bariatric surgery options, helping men and women achieve healthier, more active lives. When diet and exercise on their own have not worked, or you’ve developed life-threatening medical issues because of your excess weight, it may be time to consider weight loss surgery. Gastrointestinal surgery for obesity, also called bariatric surgery, changes the digestive process by limiting how much you eat and changing how your body metabolizes food.

Our multidisciplinary team includes internists, dedicated nurse-coordinators, dietitians, physical therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists and experienced surgeons with expertise in gastric bypass and other minimally invasive procedures.

Since 2006, the Brigham and Women's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery has been nationally accredited as a comprehensive bariatric surgery center and is currently accredited through the Metabolic and Bariatric Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP).

Our program offers quality care to every patient. Each patient plan is uniquely developed for the individual and their needs. Working alongside our Brigham Health surgeons are skilled clinicians that provide each patient the appropriate nutritional, behavioral and medical support to reduce negative events and maximize good outcomes.

Together, we create personalized plans that meet patients’ individual needs, taking into consideration lifestyle, health and emotional issues and weight loss goals. These plans may include:

We offer minimally invasive surgery options including laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures here at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain or at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
