We Care: Recent I CARE winners go above and beyond

Winter 2020 I CARE Award Winners

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. This winter, the Rewards and Recognition Committee has delivered I CARE Awards to staff members from throughout the hospital.

Among them were:

The Outpatient Infusion Center’s (OPIC) Latasha Baker who went out of her way to ensure a patient was able to make their appointment as scheduled. The patient had started her car at home in New Hampshire and drove to BWFH, not realizing her key fob was still at home. The patient would be unable to restart her car once she turned it off so she called the OPIC from the parking lot to reschedule. Baker jumped into action, offering to stay with her running car while she had her infusion.

Inpatient Physical Therapist Nick Miller who helped both his patient and his co-workers when he accompanied a patient to a test in Belkin House. He was able to help the nurse administering the test transfer the patient from her bed to the exam table and back to ensure high quality, safe care.

Ultrasound technologist Anna Frausina who took it upon herself to accommodate a patient that comes in regularly for a paracentesis. The patient was scheduled to come in the day after Christmas and was worried she would be uncomfortable due to fluid accumulation while she was entertaining her family for the holiday. Frausina arranged for her to come in on Christmas Eve instead to ensure she would be comfortable and enjoy her holiday.

The Emergency Department’s John Lapaglia who used his stethoscope to communicate with an elderly and hard of hearing patient. By placing his stethoscope into her ears and talking to her through the bell, he was able to maintain her privacy while obtaining her medical history and provide the care she needed.

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit BWFHconnect. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Cafe. At the end of the year, all I CARE Award recipients will be invited to a reception.
