Virtual job fair aims to recruit community members to care for community members

As staffing challenges continue to impact hospitals across the United States, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital has committed to recruiting and training individuals from within our community who want to work in the hospital, caring for the members of our community who come to us for their healthcare. To achieve this goal, the hospital recently collaborated with Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corp. (JPNDC) to host a virtual job fair.

“We’ve partnered with JPNDC on many projects in the past,” says Community Health Program Manager Katie Plante, who helped organize the event. “One of their goals is career development for the people who live in our community. One of our goals is to provide care to people in our community. Working together, we can achieve both those goals.”

At the job fair, community members had the opportunity to learn about the various career opportunities within the hospital. The hospital is hiring for multiple entry-level clinical positions including Certified Nursing Assistants, Medical Assistants and Phlebotomists, as well as positions in Environmental Services such as Housekeepers, Food Services Workers, Cooks, Security Officers, Transporters and more.

“Our goal is to recruit and train new clinical staff to directly care for our patients, as well as the many support service positions that maintain every area of the hospital,” says Human Resources Generalist Gaylen Conover, who helped facilitate the event.

The event, which was entirely virtual, attracted 27 interested candidates, a few of whom have already submitted an application. “I’m thrilled the job fair was so successful,” says Plante. “There are so many opportunities for local candidates within the hospital that will not only afford them the chance at a great career, but also help us better care for those patients who need us.”
