Travel nurse receives I CARE Award

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Danielle Nesbitt, RN, a travel nurse in the ICU, was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Nesbitt was nominated for her I CARE Award by ICU staff nurse Meigan Amaral, MSN, RN, CCRN. In her nomination letter, Amaral wrote:

I worked the day after Christmas and my patient had a lovely new blanket in her room that was still in the wrapping. Her daughter came to visit, and I was mentioning the blanket and how nice it was because I assumed it was a gift from the family. The daughter mentioned that someone was walking around handing those out to all the patients on Christmas. I was thinking it was such a nice gesture and assumed it was someone from the hospital, maybe volunteer services. Today I found out it was Danielle. I felt it was so thoughtful, caring and selfless. I asked her about it today and she just shrugged her shoulders and told a story of how one of her preceptors in the past did this every year, and that she wanted to keep this tradition alive. So, every year she spends her own money to buy all the patient’s Christmas blankets! She is traveling here to help our patients and hospital and is spending the holiday season away from her own home and family. She still brought this tradition with her and humbly spread holiday cheer. Danielle is a fabulous nurse and is always willing to help in all different ways. We’re so lucky to have her and our patients really appreciate her as well.

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit BWFHconnect. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Café.
