Spiritual Care Coordinator receives I CARE Award

Ellen McCarthy, DNP, MSN, RN, CCRN, and Tara Deonauth, M.Div.

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Spiritual Care Coordinator Tara Deonauth, M.Div., was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Deonauth was nominated for her I CARE Award by ICU Clinical Leader Ellen McCarthy, DNP, MSN, RN, CCRN. In her nomination letter, McCarthy wrote:

Tara has been a tremendous addition to the ICU team! She is always pleasant and extremely helpful with our patient population. Not to mention, she even checks in on the staff! One specific example of her above and beyond work revolves around a patient that had extensive cancer and his prehospitalization wish was to live out his days without aggressive treatments and to spend time with his family. He entered the hospital as a full code and Tara was instrumental with the goals of care discussions to help change his code status to more reflect his wishes. His family did not come in to visit with him at any point, but Tara visited with him during his dying hours with the palliative care NP student, Chelsea, and they provided the patient with music that interested him and were able to speak to him in his native language. This interaction was so meaningful at end of life and I am sure was so appreciated by the patient. Tara is overdue for an I CARE Award!

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit BWFHconnect. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Café.
