Psychiatric Partial Hospital Program welcomes new Social Work Supervisor

Wendy Zunitch, LICSW

Wendy Zunitch, LICSW, recently joined the Psychiatry Department at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in the role of Psychiatric Partial Hospital Program Social Work Supervisor.

Zunitch studied Business Administration as an undergraduate at Fitchburg State University, which led her to a 10-year career in finance and accounting before going back to school for her Master of Social Work at New York University. Of her decision to change career paths, Zunitch says, “I did well and I had some really great jobs, but I knew I wanted to help people in a different way.”

When Zunitch eventually found social work, she knew she was on the right path. “I fell in love with acute care,” she says. As a result, she has spent the better part of her social work career working with families, children and adults in need of intensive outpatient treatment. She most recently held the position of Clinical Supervisor, Family Support Services at Clinical & Support Options in Pittsfield and Northampton.

With her son heading off to college this year, Zunitch says she was looking for a new opportunity that would bring her to the Boston area—an opportunity she found at BWFH. “I was ready for a change,” she says. “And as soon as I walked in the door at BWFH I saw the sunlight and the café and I knew I wanted to work here.”

So far she is thrilled with her decision. “The people are personable and friendly and inclusive, and intelligent!” she says of BWFH. “And the role is perfect. I really like working with acute patients and the Psychiatric Partial Hospital Program has the best of both worlds—I am able to provide services as my patients’ therapist for a short period of time and then connect them to the next step in their treatment.”

When she is not at work, Zunitch says she enjoys spending time with her dog and running. In fact, she has set a goal to run a half marathon in all 50 states. Her next race is in Mississippi in December.
