It is going to take time to switch over to BWFH’s new identity. Branded items—including websites, internal communication channels, ID badges, printed materials, vehicles, signage, work wear and more — will be updated in phases over the next year. To implement the transition as economically as possible, BWFH is taking a “deplete and replace” strategy, in which all existing supplies, stationery, etc., with our former brand will be used up before new materials are ordered. There will be a period of time when the new and old logos are used simultaneously, and that is OK. To learn more about the new logo and how to access resources you can start using today, click here.
Congratulations to Morgan Stickney! Stickney is the only patient in the world who has undergone not one, but two Ewing amputations—a novel surgical procedure pioneered by Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Matthew Carty, MD, that enables her to perform complex actions and feel sensation by allowing her brain to interact with a robotic prosthetic. Recently, a safety report was submitted regarding a deviation from the sharps disposal policy. During a shift, several intravenous (IV) set-ups were found open with the needle exposed in one of the clinical units of the hospital. This creates the risk of a potential needlestick injury for staff and introduces infection control risks for patients. Read the complete edition of Last Week In Patient Safety.

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is reducing employee COVID-19 testing to one day per week. Effective Tuesday, July 20, testing will no longer take place in the Mary Ann Tynan Conference Center on Mondays. Testing will continue to take place in the Mary Ann Tynan Conference Center on Wednesdays from 2 to 5 pm. Based on the research, data and trends, Mass General Brigham has made the decision to require all Mass General Brigham employees be vaccinated against COVID-19 once the FDA has granted approval of one of the three vaccines. We will inform you of specific dates as soon as available. This step to require the COVID-19 vaccine as a condition of employment is consistent with our approach to the flu vaccine requirement. Given the safety and effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines and the outlined mandated vaccination policy, we strongly encourage those employees who have not yet been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible. If you have already received a COVID-19 vaccine, you do not need to be vaccinated again, and at this time no booster shot is required. For more information, read Mass General Brigham’s Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccine FAQs.
The Occupational Health Services team can now provide COVID-19 vaccines to new and current Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital employees who are interesting in receiving the vaccine at the Occupational Health clinic on the 7th floor. Employees who are interested in getting the vaccine can call Occupational Health at 617-983-4628 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
