Collaborating Across Campuses: Central Processing Departments Work as One

The Central Processing Department (CPD) is often referred to as the heart of the hospital, receiving, sterilizing and deploying instrumentation needed in the operating rooms and other procedural areas. At both Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, CPD staff and their leadership teams do the vital and intricate work needed to fuel their respective hospitals. Now, the two campuses are collaborating on a new level to share best practices and resources, all with the aim of improving care for patients across the Brigham family. Read more.

New Mobile X-Ray System Offers Immediate Information at the Bedside

At Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, when a patient in the ICU, Emergency Department or other inpatient unit requires an X-ray, diagnostic radiology technologists travel to the patient’s room with a portable X-ray machine. For nearly 30 years, the team has been using the same machine. It was refurbished in 2001 and add-on technology upgraded it even further in recent years. But now that machine is being retired in favor of a brand-new machine—the Carestream DRX-Revolution Mobile X-Ray System. Read more.

COVID-19 Updates

End of Massachusetts Masking Order Effective May 29: Healthcare and Public Transport Excluded

Restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have been lifted in many settings, however, public health authorities continue to recommend masking in healthcare settings to reduce the risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2. The Mass General Brigham Universal Mask Policy remains in effect for all employees, patients and visitors—regardless of their vaccination status. While the Massachusetts Masking Order was rescinded on May 29, face coverings will still be required in healthcare facilities, on public and private transportation systems (including rideshares, livery, taxi, ferries, MBTA, Commuter Rail and transportation stations) and in other settings hosting vulnerable populations, such as congregate care settings.

Policy Update: Off-Site Events No Longer Require Pre-Approval and Should Follow State/Local Public Health Regulations

The Facility Density and In-Person Gatherings Policy has been updated to defer to state and local public health regulations for all off-site gatherings and not require pre-approval for off-site graduations, official ceremonial and other social events. On-site in-person graduations, official ceremonial and other social events must be approved in advance by the local facility COVID-19 Recovery Team. Common questions, including about holding outdoor meetings, off-site events, gatherings and group photos, are addressed in the accompanying updated FAQs. Employees should continue to adhere to state/local regulations with respect to masking and other public health measures, which may differ from state to state. We are continuing to evaluate all Mass General Brigham pandemic-related policies and anticipate additional changes as supported by public health recommendations.

“This, Not This” Campaign Encourages Employees to Get Vaccinated

Thank you to our Mass General Brigham employees who are continuing to get vaccinated. The vaccines are safe, and they protect you, your family and friends. With our “This, Not This” campaign, we are encouraging all employees to get vaccinated, so we can all be safe for the summer! Employees can be vaccinated at any of our vaccination sites using COVID Pass. For employees unable to use COVID Pass seeking dose 1 (initial vaccination appointments), please call the COVID Call Center to schedule an appointment at 781-960-1567. Employees may take time during their workday to get vaccinated and should coordinate with their manager. New Hampshire employees wishing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine should email Rebecca.Wittman@wdhospital.org and include name, date of birth and preferred phone number.

Questions About the COVID-19 Vaccine? Ask a Badge Buddy

While the vaccines are safe, and they protect you, your family and friends, many colleagues still have questions. If you need answers, simply look for a colleague wearing a badge that says “Ask Me About the COVID-19 Vaccine.”
