Amidst ongoing nation-wide blood product shortage, BWFH steps up

The United States continues to experience an urgent blood product shortage. Recently, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile―the traveling extension of the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center―visited Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, giving employees and members of the community the opportunity to do their part by giving blood to support patients undergoing cancer treatments, accident victims, transplant recipients and more. Emergency Department nurse receives I CARE Award

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Emergency Department nurse Sean Ford was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award after he provided an exceptional level of support to a grieving family. Read more.

Mass General Brigham Employee Referral Bonus Program launched

Mass General Brigham recently launched an Employee Referral Bonus Program. The goal is to invite more talented individuals to join our organization by having employees use their social networks to share specific job openings. To participate in the program, simply submit referrals online. Referrals must include a résumé and a corresponding job identification number. Employees must submit each referral before the candidate’s first interview. Each candidate must apply to a position in Taleo. Learn more.

New Kronos Timeclock project

The Kronos team and IS are currently working on a project to replace all of the old Kronos timeclocks to a new and updated model. We hope that this project will be completed soon. Here is a user guide for reference. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Barnett.

Free Revolution playoff tickets for employees

As the official Sports Medicine Sponsor for the New England Revolution, Mass General Brigham is proud to be part of the team as they get ready for a run to the MLS Cup. The Revolution’s first playoff game is Tuesday, November 30, at 7 pm at Gillette Stadium, and we have free tickets for employees to attend and cheer on the Revs! We have a limited number of free tickets that will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please complete the online entry form by 5 pm on Sunday, November 28. Please note, employees receiving tickets will be notified on Monday, November 29, and tickets will be distributed electronically. Only one entry is allowed per employee. Entries made on behalf of other employees are accepted.

Police and Security Department collecting Toys for Tots - through December 22

Please help us support children in need this holiday season. Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Police and Security Department will be accepting toys through Wednesday, December 22. Drop off a new, unwrapped, non-violent toy at the 1st or 3rd floor Information Desk. All toys will be donated to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program. Know the Line portal encourages culture of respect and inclusion

Recently, Mass General Brigham launched the Know the Line portal, a comprehensive website dedicated to addressing inappropriate workplace behavior and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment for all. If you witness or are subject to behavior that could be considered harassment, bullying or discrimination, as defined by our policies, the portal allows you to submit information directly to Human Resources so that the team can assess the situation and take timely, appropriate and responsive action.

Registered nurses, interested in a career in the Operating Room?

At Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, our Operating Room nurses are highly skilled and committed to advocating for their patients. Now is your chance to join them! We’re looking for registered nurses who want to explore a new career path here at BWFH. We’re offering comprehensive on-the-job training through the Association of Peri Operative Registered Nurses’ Periop 101 core curriculum. And, with 20 percent of nurses working in the perioperative specialty expected to retire in the next five years, a career in the OR will ensure your skills are in demand in the coming years. If you’re interested in exploring the next phase of your career, contact Interim Nurse Director Mary Catherine West before Tuesday, November 30 for a potential start date on Monday, January 3.

COVID-19 Updates

Staff and patients who received their COVID-19 vaccination(s) through a Mass General Brigham provider now have the option to access their vaccination record digitally, or via a QR code, through Patient Gateway.

  1. Log in to Patient Gateway account and click on Menu and then select COVID-19 (just under My Record).
    1. COVID-19 vaccine information will appear for those who have completed their COVID-19 vaccine series (2 doses of Pfizer, 2 doses of Moderna or 1 dose of J&J).
  2. From this record, a few actions can be taken:
    1. Click the down arrow to see vaccine information
    2. QR code: Click on QR code to open a scannable QR code if needed at a venue to scan and verify vaccine details.
    3. Download/Export: Clicking on this option will produce a PDF of the vaccine information that can be printed or saved.
  3. The option to Export to Health Wallet is currently only available for iPhone users. More details will be shared when this functionality is live for Androids.

COVID-19 policy updates

SARS-CoV-2 Testing Policy: Update to reference daily symptom screening for inpatients. This does not represent a change in policy.

IC for AGP Policy: Update to specify that asymptomatic, fully vaccinated inpatients within six months of full vaccination or within six months of their last additional dose of vaccine do not require pre-AGP testing during the first 14 days of admission after completing their admission and repeat admission test. Testing is required if more than six months have elapsed since full vaccination or additional doses.

Booster shots: Who is eligible and where to get them

On Friday, November 19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) expanded eligibility for COVID-19 booster shots to include all adults. Click here for full details regarding the CDC’s announcement.

Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster shot. Visit the CDC website for full details regarding their recommendation on the use of heterologous (or “mix and match”) booster shots.

Mass General Brigham is also offering booster shots to employees who are eligible per the CDC’s recommendation. Eligible employees may schedule their booster shot appointment at a Mass General Brigham location via COVID Pass

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Emerging Leaders Committee invites you to attend a Q&A with Vice President of Clinical Services Susan Dempsey. Half and Half X-waiver training - December 15

Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Quality and Patient Experience’s Substance Use Disorders Initiative are pleased to offer to “‘Half and Half’ X-Waiver Training” on the fundamentals of addiction medicine, buprenorphine, opioid use disorders and practical patient management to all Mass General Brigham prescribers (physicians, NPs, PAs, CNMs, CNSs and CRNAs) interested in using buprenorphine treatment protocols to treat opioid use disorder. Non-prescribers are also welcome to join the training which will be held virtually on Wednesday, December 15, from 7:30 to 11:30 am. For more information, click here.
