BWFH Pulse Now Available in 150 Languages
The Department of Quality, Safety, Risk, Compliance and Infection Control has recently restructured, welcoming two familiar faces and one new face in Director-level roles, all of whom will report directly to Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs Scott Schissel, MD, PhD. The team has also welcomed a new Project Manager for Infection Control and Clinical Compliance.
Caitlin Manca, MPH, has been named Director for Hospital Quality and Tricia Martin, MPH, has been named Director of Infection Control, Clinical Compliance and Patient Safety. Learn more about their new roles.
Beth Uhl-Israel, MBA, CPHRM, CPHQ, has been named Director of Risk Management. She has extensive healthcare experience having previously held Risk Management leadership roles at Metrowest Medical Center (part of Tenet Healthcare), Franciscan Children’s Hospital and Winchester Hospital. Read more.

From October 24 to 30, we celebrate Respiratory Care Week. This week is set aside annually to honor respiratory therapists and thank them for the vital care they provide our patients. At Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, our respiratory therapists remain on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing life-saving care each and every day.
Every year, in the last week of October, we celebrate Health Care Facilities and Engineering Week. This year's theme is “Engineered to Make a Difference.” It’s our chance to celebrate the important role that facility team members have in ensuring a safe and efficient environment for all patients, visitors and staff here at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.

Kelly Duguay has been named Director of Business Operations for Perioperative Services at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. In this role, she is responsible for the planning and management of administrative and business functions of our peri-operative services, including the Central Processing Department, OR Materials Management, Anesthesia support and Operating Room revenue/billing functions. She will also oversee the budget for perioperative services. Read more.
Since 1997, the Passageway program has provided confidential support, safety and resources to patients and employees who are unsafe, controlled, threatened or hurt by current or former intimate partners. Open Enrollment for your 2022 benefits will be Monday, November 1, through Friday, November 12. Open Enrollment is your yearly opportunity to review your benefits enrollment and make any necessary changes for the new year. This quick video will tell you all you need to know about reviewing, choosing and enrolling in your 2022 Mass General Brigham benefits.
Any changes you make to your benefits during Open Enrollment will take effect on Saturday, January 1, 2022. If you do not make any changes, your current elections will carry over, with this exception: If you are enrolled in a Flexible Spending Account for 2021 and wish to enroll again in 2022, you must log into PeopleSoft. Your enrollment will not automatically roll over into the new year.
Find all of the information you need for Open Enrollment 2022, including how to register for Open Enrollment informational webinars, benefit plan comparison charts, rate sheets and helpful videos through Ask My HR. You will be able to enroll in benefits through PeopleSoft beginning Monday, November 1.

To protect the safety of all patients and staff, Mass General Brigham requires that all employees receive a flu vaccine by Friday, November 12, unless they are approved for a medical or religious exemption. All staff are also required to complete their annual compliance training in HealthStream by Monday, January 3. Please review the key dates and actions items below.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently authorized Pfizer vaccine booster doses for eligible adults who completed their Pfizer vaccination primary series (i.e., the first 2 doses of the Pfizer vaccine) at least six months ago. Click here for full details regarding the CDC’s recommendations. COVID-19 booster shots are not yet available for people who received the two-dose Moderna vaccine or the single-shot J&J vaccine.
Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Department is seeking volunteers to help prepare meals for critically ill individuals and their families in our community. Join us on Monday, November 8, from 4 to 7 pm at Community Servings (179 Amory Street in Jamaica Plain) to peel, chop and package meals for Community Servings’ clients. Volunteers must be 13 years or older, vaccinated against COVID-19 (please have proof of vaccination when you arrive) and register in advance. All employees are invited to attend the “Veterans Day Tribute: Centennial Commemoration for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Honoring All Who Served)” on Wednesday, November 10, from 8:30 to 9:30 am. We recognize the important contributions that our Veterans make to our nation and our community. In honor of Veterans Day, we are hosting our annual Veterans Day event via livestream to thank and recognize our active, reserve, honorably discharged and retired service members.
