Makhni joins Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr. Melvin Makhni

Dr. Melvin Makhni, a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon, recently joined Brigham Health’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition to operating at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, he will see patients in clinic in the Brigham and Women’s Comprehensive Spine Center at BWFH two days per week.

A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Makhni completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center and his spine fellowship at The Spine Hospital, Columbia University Medical Center, one of the preeminent spinal deformity fellowships in the United States.

Dr. Makhni treats the entire spectrum of spinal disorders. “My clinical interests include management of cervical and lumbar spine conditions, as well as scoliosis and kyphosis,” he says. “Here at BWFH, I will perform operations using minimally invasive and microscopic techniques.”

At BWFH, he looks forward to being part of the BWFH family and surrounding community. “I enjoy caring for patients, and have lived by the mantra of treating every patient the way I would treat my own family member,” says Dr. Makhni.

Outside of work, he enjoys pursuing research related to the improvement of spine care for patients on a national and international level, as well as spending time with his family.
