James named 2 South Nurse Director

Katy James, BSN, RN, has been named Nurse Director on 2 South, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s inpatient psychiatric unit. James has served as Interim Director on the unit since September of 2021.

James graduated from Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN, and then started her career in an emergency department in Nashville before moving into a role that specialized in immigration nursing in Tacoma, WA, where she developed a keen interest and love of working in psychiatry nursing and leadership. She comes to BWFH after having spent time serving in multiple capacities at Pembroke Hospital, most recently as the Interim Director of their six-unit behavioral health facility. She has also spent time living and working in Chile.

In her new role Nurse Director on 2 South, she will work collaboratively with the Chief of Psychiatry/Medical Director and a multidisciplinary team of nurses, providers, therapists and social works to provide a therapeutic setting for a primarily adult population that requires 24-hour care in a safe location. The inpatient unit also functions as the primary back up to the Partial Hospital Program and provides consultation elsewhere in the hospital and in the community as needed.

“I look forward to belonging to this special community,” says James. “This is such a special and collaborative place. Everyone, in every department, comes together to share their perspectives and ideas. This type of an environment fosters a culture of providing exceptional patient care. I’ve been so lucky to share in this over the last six months, and now I can say that I am truly a part of this culture.”

When she is not at work, James enjoys cooking, painting, exploring and spending time with her four children.
