I CARE recipient's efficiency improves the patient experience

Cora Wright

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Phlebotomy Supervisor Cora Wright was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Wright was nominated for her I CARE Award by Client Services Laboratory Operations Manager Charyn Wilson. In her nomination, Wilson wrote:

The Outpatient Lab has been short a closer for most of the last few months. During this time, Cora has made a point to make sure the lab is always covered by a qualified phlebotomist which often meant she was the one working 11- to 12-hour shifts. In addition, Cora has frequently been left alone during the day while the phlebotomy team tends to the inpatients (which has been very busy). Although Cora gets extremely busy in the Outpatient Lab when she is alone, she never gets frazzled and always gives each patient her undivided attention and provides excellent service with a smile. Recently, Cora took care of 128 patient during her shift by herself. This is an extremely high volume of patients and, because of Cora’s efficiency, organizational skills and patient-focused care, all patients were taken care of without too much of a wait. It is obvious the patients appreciate her, because even though they may have to wait there have been no complaints about wait times. As her manager, I cannot say enough about how Cora has managed the Outpatient Lab during our recent chronic staffing issues. Cora always gives 110 percent to BWFH and I believe she should be recognized for her commitment to patient care and always going above and beyond to make sure all patients receive the best service/care.

For Wright, receiving an I CARE Award was very meaningful. “I love what I do,” she says.

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit Vitals. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Cafe. At the end of the year, all I CARE Award recipients will be invited to a reception.
