The Dr. Norman L. Sadowsky Award for Excellence goes to an individual who best exemplifies the qualities Dr. Sadowsky himself demonstrated throughout his illustrious career. This year’s recipient, announced recently during Daily Safety Huddle, is Radiology Support Services Supervisor Roseanne Howell.

Dr. Sadowsky made extraordinary contributions to BWFH’s patients and staff during his more than 40 years of leadership in radiology. As a radiologist, colleague, friend, teacher, researcher and administrator, he always brought the highest levels of caring, compassion, creativity and service excellence to his work.

Much like Dr. Sadowsky, Howell is dedicated to her patients and colleagues. In her nomination letter, Radiology Project Manager Sabrina Klein wrote, “Dedication. Respect. Care. These words only begin to describe Roseanne Howell.  Roseanne is not only dedicated to the patients at BWFH but also her coworkers and her staff. She consistently demonstrates the characteristics of the Sadowsky Award in her daily work and interactions. Even more, she does so in a way that shows these traits are natural to her. She is compassionate to the needs of patients and their family members. When she sees a patient in need of guidance or assistance, I have personally witnessed her come to their aid and go above and beyond on multiple occasions. Roseanne is a crucial member of the Radiology Patient Satisfaction Task Force and has been key in identifying new and more creative ways to not only improve our patient satisfaction but also engage our front line staff in doing so. She was a vital part of our goal to improve our informing patients of their delays initiative. We not only saw an increase in our scores from these efforts but also patient comments about their interactions with front desk staff regarding notification of delays. Her dedication to service excellence is not just limited to our patients. She is always ready to jump right in and assist in all areas of support services.  When COVID-19 first began and we were mandated to cancel exams, she led the charge in organizing radiology scheduling to cancel nearly 7,000 exams. She worked with others in our department to calmly plan how we would cancel and reschedule these exams while also taking a significant amount more incoming calls from nervous patients. At the same time, she made sure that her staff were clam and that they felt cared for. I am honored to work with Roseanne.”

For Howell, receiving the Sadowsky Award for Excellence is very meaningful. “I am so honored to receive the Norman L. Sadowsky Award. He was the epitome of excellence, and his dedication, empathy and care for his patients was an inspiration to all who worked with him. I hope to continue to exemplify these characteristics in my work. It is a privilege to work with such a wonderful team of leaders, co-workers and staff in the Radiology Department.”
