In honor of National Volunteer Week, celebrated this year from April 7 to 13, the Emerging Leaders Committee at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital recently participated in the Italian Home for Children’s Spring Clean Up.

The Italian Home for Children provides an integrated network of powerful and effective programs to help children and families with emotional, behavioral and educational challenges thrive in their communities. They also happen to be Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s next-door neighbors.

During the event, volunteers from the Emerging Leaders Committee, along with volunteers from a host of other organizations, donated both time and energy to help clean up the 8-acre campus and prepare it for spring. Work for the day included raking leaves and removing trash, branches and other debris that accumulated over the winter from the yard as well as painting dorm rooms indoors.

“Our team spent the morning raking the front hillside,” says Emerging Leaders Committee member and Web and Multimedia Specialist in the Marketing and Public Affairs Department Caitlyn Slowe. “It was a lot of work (I got all of my steps in for the day before noon!), but it was also a lot of fun.”

Emerging Leaders Committee Co-Chair and Senior Writer in the Marketing and Public Affairs Department Stephanie Brooks says she is grateful to the team who volunteered time out of their day to give back to the community. “It was great to do something for our neighbors. Hopefully the kids at the Italian Home get to start enjoying their outdoor space soon!”
