Brigham and Women's Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center host Walk from Obesity at BWFH to benefit ASMBS Foundation

2018 Walk from Obesity

On a beautiful spring Saturday recently, the Arnold Arboretum was the ideal backdrop for the Walk from Obesity. Hosted by Brigham and Women’s Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (CMBS) and the Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center, the event celebrated the success of patients and raised money for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Foundation. One hundred and fifteen walkers participated, raising more than $10,000.

Director of the CMBS Scott Shikora, MD, was on hand along with the day’s master of ceremony and host of Nightside Dan Rea. “This year’s Greater Boston Walk from Obesity was the best one yet,” says Dr. Shikora. “It joined similar Walks that were conducted at about the same time all across the country. Clinicians of all disciplines, former patients, family members, persons suffering from obesity and others all got together to express their support for those individuals who suffer from the disease of obesity.”

The Walk from Obesity is the nation’s largest gathering of individuals affected by obesity. The funds raised will support the ASMBS Foundation and fund programs focused on research, education and advocacy.

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital was a Gold Sponsor of the event.
