Scott Otis, MBA, RTT, recently joined Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital as Performance Improvement Consultant. In this role, he will work closely with Performance Improvement Manager Sarah Levitin, MBA, to support BWFH’s strategic goals through facilitation of major projects and the use of performance improvement methodologies.
Otis studied Biology at Suffolk University and spent the first nine years of his career at Mass General Hospital in radiation therapy. In 2018, he returned to school, earning an MBA from Fitchburg State University. “I have always been passionate about delivering safe, high-quality care. But, as I progressed through the ranks as a radiation therapist, I started to see the bigger picture,” he says of his decision to switch gears. “When you work in a clinical area, you are limited to helping the patients who are on your schedule. But when you work on the bigger picture level, you are able to help more people, just in a different way.”
So far, Otis says he is very pleased with his decision to transition to Performance Improvement. Already he is working on several projects aimed at improving the patient experience and efficiency. “There’s a lot to learn. It’s a new industry for me, but I’m taking it head-on,” he says.
When he is not at work, Otis enjoys outdoor activities like biking and hiking. He says, “I’m sad to see the summer go, but I can’t wait to ski!”
