IV Nurse Receives I CARE Award

Gina Marinelli, BSN, RN, and Jestin Jose, BSN, RN, VA-BC

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Jestin Jose, BSN, RN, VA-BC, from the IV Therapy Team, was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Jose was nominated for his I CARE Award by 6 South’s Gina Marinelli, BSN, RN, who wrote in her nomination letter:

There was a young patient on 6 South who needed a central line started on a Sunday morning. The attending provider asked me how to go about getting a PICC line placed ASAP. I told him we didn’t have IV nurses to place PICC lines on the weekend and the patient would have to wait until Monday. The provider was very concerned about the patient and advocated for a PICC line placement on Sunday. We called Jestin to see if he would be able to come in early for his 3 to 11 pm shift to place a PICC line. Jestin immediately agreed and came in at 2 pm, no questions asked. Jestin left his family's Mother's Day dinner to come in and help a patient in need. The patient was so excited to have her PICC line placed and be able to start receiving nutrition. Jestin made this patient's Mother’s Day—as a young mother of three, spending the week in the hospital this really meant a lot to her. Jestin is one of the most selfless people that works at BWFH and, as a new nurse, I'm so grateful to be able to learn from him. Thank you for all you do Jestin!!
