Earp and Blazar take on new leadership roles

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Dr. Brandon Earp, Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Dr. Philip Blazar, an orthopaedic surgeon, have both recently taken on expanded leadership roles within Brigham and Women’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Earp has been named Vice-Chair of Clinical Operations of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Brigham Health. In her new role, she will help develop strategies to provide the highest, most efficient value-based care in the delivery of orthopaedic surgery within the Brigham Health community. With the changing landscape in the delivery of care for orthopaedic patients, Dr. Earp will provide her experience in leading the charge towards ambulatory surgical centers and their development. Working with other Divisional Chiefs, she will help organize a shift towards outpatient surgery which will provide the most efficient and highest quality care for patients. She will also spearhead clinical initiatives and opportunities that the Partners 2.0 program will bring forth.

Dr. Earp, who will continue in her role as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at BWFH, says of this new challenge, “This is a really exciting opportunity to help our department advance the value of the orthopaedic healthcare we provide. I look forward to working with Dr. James Kang (Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery), my orthopaedic partners and our many colleagues across the Brigham family to develop ways to enhance our patients’ experiences, to optimize each patient’s outcome and to grow and expand our already outstanding network for musculoskeletal care.”

Dr. Blazar has been named Chief of the Hand and Upper Extremity Service. In addition to his role at BWFH, he is currently the program director of the Harvard Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship, one of the most sought-after fellowships in the country, and the Surgical Director of the Day Surgery Unit at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital Foxborough Ambulatory Care Center. Dr. Blazar is also part of the multi-disciplinary hand transplantation team at BWH. He replaces Dr. Barry Simmons.

While he has an expanded leadership role within Brigham Health, Dr. Blazar will continue to see patients at BWFH. In fact, he says, “Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital has been a significant part of the growth of the Brigham and Women’s hand community, and I look forward to continued growth and success of the hand surgery program at BWFH.”
