I CARE recipient helps calm an anxious patient by speaking in her native language

Anne Jean Noel

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Anne Jean Noel from the Transport Department was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Noel was nominated for her I CARE Award by Emergency Department staff nurse Connor Berry.

In his nomination, Berry wrote:

Anne was the transporter for a Haitian Creole patient who had moderate dementia and was trying to leave, was anxious and didn’t know what was going on. During transport, Anne spoke with the patient, calming her down on our way to do a head CT scan. Upon arrival, Anne stayed with the patient, helping staff to take her earrings off and the hairclip off. The patient was moved onto the scanner and held still for the exam because Anne was there talking to her and soothing her through the entire process. The patient was saved from medication that would have had to have been used for sedation for this exam to be done in another way. Anne also saved the patient from further confusion by having to speak to an iPad interpreter. Care was streamlined and made easier for this patient and all staff because Anne went above and beyond. She truly cares!

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit Vitals. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Cafe. At the end of the year, all I CARE Award recipients will be invited to a reception.
