BWFH welcomes new Materials Management Manager

Jorge Villanueva

Jorge Villanueva recently assumed the role of Materials Management Manager at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. In this role, Villanueva will have oversight of linen distribution and management, mail services and receiving and distribution.

Villanueva comes to BWFH from Massachusetts General Hospital where he began his healthcare career at the age of 17. While still in school, he started at MGH in the mailroom, eventually serving as the Mail Services Team Lead, then Materials Management Weekend Supervisor and most recently as the Linen Services Supervisor, a position he has held since 2014. In this role, Villanueva was responsible for a combined annual budget of $7.6 million.

Villanueva says he was instantly impressed by how friendly the environment is here at BWFH. “When I came in for my interview, I stopped at the front desk to ask for directions to HR. The person told me how to get there and wished me good luck! And she seemed so sincere about it,” he says.

He also says he’s excited to work in a smaller institution where he can get to know everyone. In his first few weeks on the job he’s busy getting to know his staff and the departments with whom he will interact.

A resident of Revere, Villanueva says one of the hardest parts of his new job is conquering the Jamaica Way each day. “It’s scary!” he says.

Outside of work, Villanueva enjoys going to shows and cooking. He’s recently developed an interest in veganism. “I feel a lot better. I’m not fatigued at all,” he says. He has also recently become interested in gardening through his involvement with his neighborhood’s community garden. “I’ve gotten to meet my neighbors and learned so much from them,” he says.
