Annual shoe drive benefits Boston's homeless at the Pine Street Inn

Members of Brigham and Women’s Foot and Ankle Center at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital recently held their annual shoe drive at the Pine Street Inn. This year they distributed close to 200 pairs of shoes, boots and wool socks to the homeless thanks to support from a generous gift from Brett Hershey. Clinical foot screenings were also provided.

Many of the homeless were especially grateful for the warm shoes and socks at this time of year. The experience was equally rewarding for the members of the team, who all took time out of their clinical practices to volunteer. “We have worked with the Pine Street Inn for several years now, and each year it is more and more successful,” says Dr. Christopher Chiodo, Chief of the Foot and Ankle Service at BWFH, who spearheads the event. “This year I am especially grateful to our Medical Assistant Kelly Walsh who organized the event and to Dr. Joseph Hartigan who went out of his way to ensure we had enough shoes to distribute to those who needed them. Their efforts, along with those of our team, truly made an impact in the lives of these individuals.”

Those present included Drs. Christopher Chiodo, Joseph Hartigan, Jeremey Smith, Eric Bluman, Joshua Vaughn, Brian Schurko and Kenneth Defontes as well as Physician Assistants Justine Kramer and Shari Vigneau. The team’s Medical Assistants, Kelly Walsh and Laura Puntini, as well as Research Assistant Lia Keyser and Practice Manager Jeff Weinstock, were also present.
