BWFH names new Chief of Medicine

Nathan T. Connell, MD, MPH, will become the next Chief of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and Vice Chair of Medicine for BWFH Clinical Services and Education at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, effective July 1, 2022.

Dr. Connell is a well-known member of our organization, having served the last eight years as Clinical Chief of Hematology, where his expertise has been in the areas of thrombosis and hemostasis with a focus inherited bleeding disorders. He also serves as Associate Physician in the Hematology Division at BWH, is active on the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute staff, is Associate Director of the Boston Hemophilia Center and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

A graduate of Cornell University and the Harvard School of Public Health, he received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship at Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital.

As Chief of Medicine at BWFH, Dr. Connell will oversee the BWFH medicine service, provide input regarding ambulatory practices, support growth of the inpatient medical service and execute upon both Brigham and Mass General Brigham strategic initiatives as they relate to the BWFH medical service. He will be an active participant in hospital-wide initiatives to improve core quality metrics such as hospital-acquired conditions and readmission rates and will provide and organize medical student, postgraduate and continuing medical education at BWFH.

Dr. Connell is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Society of Hematology and the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis and a volunteer for both the National Hemophilia Foundation and the World Federation of Hemophilia. He is also an active researcher, focusing on systems-based hematology and von Willebrand disease.

Dr. Connell will continue in his role as Clinical Chief of Hematology until a successor is named.
