Brigham and Women's Hand and Upper Extremity Service at BWFH

Brigham and Women’s Hand and Upper Extremity Service at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital treats the full spectrum of diseases of the hand and upper extremity (shoulder, arm, elbow and wrist), including fractures, tumors, ligament disruptions and tendonitis, helping thousands of patients every year. The Hand and Upper Extremity Service has particular expertise in the treatment of arthritis, entrapment neuropathies, Dupuytren’s Disease and sports injuries of the hand and upper extremity.

Services include:

  • Arthritis – We work with our colleagues in the Division of Rheumatology to offer a comprehensive approach to the treatment of arthritis in the hand and upper extremity. We have broad experience in surgical treatment of arthritis, including tendon transfers and joint replacements in the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.
  • Entrapment neuropathy (repetitive stress injury) – We utilize minimally invasive surgical techniques, enabling a quick recovery for the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome and radial tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel release can now be performed in less than ten minutes under local anesthesia.
  • Sports-related injuries – We consult with two major college teams in the Boston area and provide care for sports injuries in athletes from high school through college to the adult weekend warrior.
  • Rehabilitation – Provided by highly trained certified occupational and physical therapists.
