Summer jobs program gives local high school students the chance to explore a career in the healthcare industry

Each year, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Department coordinates a summer jobs program that has a lasting impact on both the hospital and the students. By working with the Boston Private Industry Council, BWFH is able to give local high school students the opportunity to learn about careers in the healthcare industry. This summer, 11 students from Boston Public Schools participated in the program.

“This year, we were able to have the students work here on site within the various departments in the hospital for the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Katie Plante, Community Health and Wellness Program Manager at BWFH. “We had students working in all areas of the hospital, including the Patient Experience Department, Materials Management, Transport and the Central Processing Department. In addition to their work experience, they also had the opportunity to participate in an interviewing workshop with our Workforce Development Program Manager Mary Duggan.”
