The Patient Experience Department celebrates Maritz Velez’s I CARE Award
Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Patient/Family Relations Specialist Maritza Velez was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.
Velez was nominated for her I CARE Award by Patient Experience Operations Manager Emily LeSage. In her nomination letter, LeSage wrote:
Maritza goes above and beyond for our patients and their loved ones every day. Recently, one instance stood out. A patient arrived acutely at the hospital and a staff member needed to remove a necklace in order to provide care. Somewhere in the shuffle, the necklace was misplaced and the patient was discharged without it. When the patient realized it was missing, she connected with Patient and Family Relations. Maritza was able to locate the patient belonging, and, with a little research, confirmed that the patient lived at Spring House across Allandale Street. Accompanied by security, Maritza was able to hand deliver the patient belonging to the very grateful patient. As it turns out, the necklace was given to her by her mother, who had received it from a prominent mayor many decades ago and it held real sentimental value to the patient. Maritza went above and beyond and provided an exceptional experience!
