Olivier named 2 South Nurse Director

Maria Olivier, MSN, RN

Maria Olivier, MSN, RN, has been named Nurse Director on 2 South, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s inpatient psychiatric unit. Olivier comes to BWFH with more than 30 years of experience in psychiatric nursing.

Olivier earned her bachelor’s degree from Laboure College and a master’s degree from St. Joseph’s College of Maine. For the past 19 years, she has worked for McLean Hospital, most recently as Nurse Director for their Nursing Resource Team.

She says she was drawn to psychiatric nursing because it can be such a vulnerable patient population. “It’s my passion,” she says. “I want to advocate for my patients and provide the care they need.”

As a nurse leader, Olivier says it is her job to model excellence in patient care. “My staff needs to know that I am not afraid to roll up my sleeves and work right alongside them,” she says.

In her first few weeks on the job, Olivier is doing just that. “One of my first goals is to create a sense of stability and to be present for the staff and our patients,” she says. “From there, we can start to think about best practices and how we can improve the care we provide to our patients.”

When she is not at work, Olivier enjoys traveling and spending time with friends. She practices mindfulness and loves to laugh, both of which help her cope with the stresses of work.
