Effective Monday, February 1, Dr. Erin O’Fallon will assume the new role of Associate Chief of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.

"Our hospital is so fortunate to have staff from every department who are truly dedicated to improving the care we can offer to our patients,” says Dr. O’Fallon. “That is a huge part of why I remain excited to come to work each day.”

A native of Minnesota, Dr. O’Fallon graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed her internal medicine residency at their affiliated medical center, Hennepin County Medical Center.

“To have the opportunity to be further involved in supporting both what we do for our patients and our incredible staff members is a huge honor,” continues O’Fallon. “I’m particularly excited about continuing the work we have done around Just Culture, diversity and equity, and enhancing the quality and safety of our hospital for our older patients.”

Dr. O’Fallon was recruited in 2011 as an early member and first director of the FACT team at BWFH. Since that time her accomplished are wide reaching:

  • She grew the service from an average of 20 patients to 75, increasing the faculty and advanced practice professionals on the team at a breakneck pace
  • She has played key roles in several QI/PI and operational innovations, including re-organization of the addiction medicine service, creation of unit-based leadership “dyads”, delirium prevention bundles, and an important peer-review process for APPs and attending physicians.
  • In addition, Dr. O’Fallon has expertly assumed several leadership roles, including associate director of hospitalist medicine for Brigham Health and vice president and now president of BWFH’s medical staff.

“Erin is a selfless, tireless leader and extremely well balanced under the most stressful situations,” says Dr. Scott Schissel, Chief of Medicine. “As our new associate chief of medicine, I have the highest confidence that she will lead BWFH’s Department of Medicine and the entire organization to an even higher level of clinical and medical education excellence.”
