In the Nutrition Clinic at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, registered dietitians provide nutrition therapy and counseling to enhance physicians’ treatment plans. Registered dietitians work with individual patients to create a personalized eating plan taking into consideration medical conditions, lifestyle, food preferences and budget. Recently, two new registered dietitians joined the team.
Alyssa Waldman, MS, RD, LDN
Waldman holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from UMass Amherst and a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition from New York University where she also completed her dietetic internship. She has experience counseling on a range of conditions, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, weight management, food allergies and plant-based eating. She herself has been a vegetarian for more than 20 years but understands there is no one ’right way’ to eat and individualizes nutrition recommendations for each of her patients. “I love working in the outpatient setting because I get to build a strong connection with my patients. Getting to know my patients allows me to make recommendations specific to them!” she says.
Jennifer Wang, MS, RD, LDN, CNSC, CPT
Wang holds a Bachelor of Science from Framingham State University and a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology and Sports Nutrition from Concordia University. She is also a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician specializing in tube feeding and parenteral (intravenous) nutrition, and a Certified Behavior Change Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She works in both outpatient and inpatient settings where she thrives on helping people who need more patience and compassion, and complex cases requiring nutrition support. She is passionate about working with clients who struggle with weight because of her own personal experience on her health journey. She understands how difficult it is to reach a healthy weight, and hopes to bring compassion, knowledge and support to others wanting to make that change. She believes that exercise and mental health are just as important as the foods you choose. Ultimately her mission is to help her clients identify and create tools needed to live their best, most fulfilling life. “I’ve always wished for more time to talk to my patients. I personally believe that in order to successfully help someone, you need the time to get to know them so you can create interventions that will be effective and sustainable to improve their quality of life,” she says of her new role. “I feel honored and excited to have this invaluable opportunity to work with patients here at BWFH.”
