Nursing Professional Development welcomes new team members

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital's Nursing Professional Development team recently welcomed two new Nursing Professional Development Managers. Nursing Professional Development Managers assess each learners’ needs, identify opportunities to improve nursing practice, develop programs to address learning needs or practice issues and evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of these programs.

Jennifer Capone, MSN, RN, studied nursing at Brockton Hospital School of Nursing and later earned her master’s degree in Nursing Education from Curry College. As Nursing Professional Development Manager for Nursing Orientation and Transition to Practice, she will be leading the coordination of nursing orientation, enhancing the Newly Licensed Nurse Residency Program and developing a New to Practice Program for nursing support staff. “I am so impressed with how this organization values education and fosters the development of their nurses,” she says. “The fact that a Newly Licensed Nurse Residency Program exists is a great example. New nurses here have the guidance and support they need to be successful as they transition into practice.”

Lauren Donovan, MSN, RN, studied nursing at the University of Maine and later earned her master’s degree in Nursing Education from Curry College. As Ambulatory Nursing Professional Development Manager she will work with Endoscopy, the Outpatient Infusion Center, the Pain Management Clinic and Cardiac Rehabilitation. “I will be partnering with clinical nurses and staff to identify learning needs, opportunities and creating goals for education programs within my specialty areas,” she says. “I aspire for all staff to be confident and competent in their role and I believe that education is crucial for success in our rapidly changing healthcare system.”

Outside of work, both Capone and Donovan enjoy time with family and in the outdoors. “I spend most of my time watching my children play lacrosse, soccer and hockey,” says Capone. “I also enjoy skiing in the winter and boating in the summer.” Similarly, Donovan says, “When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time outside with my family, going for walks and to Newfound Lake!”
