Celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year!

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, began at sunset on Monday, September 6, and ends at nightfall on Wednesday, September 8. Customs and observances for this significant holiday vary among Jewish denominations and communities. During this time, many Jews gather in the synagogue for high holiday prayers. It is customary to eat festive meals and symbolic foods, including an apple and honey to signify a sweet new year. Traditionally, Jews also refrain from certain kinds of work during this holiday. The preservation of life takes precedence over the observance of the holiday, as do some activities required for maintaining the health and comfort of those who are ill. Shanah Tovah to all who observe this holiday!

To celebrate, Spiritual Care will have apples and honey available for staff in the Interfaith Chapel located on the third floor near the Hillside entrance. In addition, patients who identify as Jewish will be offered these sweet treats as their diet allows.
