Finding Inspiration: Kind words from our patients

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital staff and employees often receive heartfelt thank you notes and survey comments from the patients and families they serve. The messages here are devoted to featuring those special words from patients and family members who have benefitted from the incredible compassion and expert skill of our superb staff.

Recently, President David O. McCready received an inspiring note from a patient, praising the care team at BWFH, that read in part:

Dear Mr. McCready,

I visited BWFH recently for surgery. When my wife and I arrived, your friendly ambassador screened us and took extra care to walk us to the direction of Pre-Op Admitting. She took time to compliment my wife’s hair. That subtle compliment helped put her at ease. It made our day.

We were quickly led to Pre-Op where nurse Peggy got me ready. She is a professional with a compassionate bedside manner and a tenacious eye for detail.

Dr. Wright, an assisting resident, gently addressed my questions.

Quick aside, your roving X-ray technicians are fabulous! Proficient and fun. I loved watching them deftly wheeling their cumbersome equipment about.

Dr. Lange is amazing. His humility blows me away and I think it drives the clear respect I could see in the eyes of his team. There is sincere respect and admiration going on there. Dr. Lange leads from the bottom up, with is very in synch with the lean principles that clearly drive BWFH.

Lean healthcare works best when adoption is universal, cultural. It was evident that your organization is well along in the journey. It makes BWFH special.

After surgery, I drifted back into consciousness under the professional eye of Chris.

I cannot say I was entirely lucid during my overnight stay, but I can tell you that every single professional on your 7th floor followed suit in terms of competent, compassionate and expert care. The happiness with which they cared for me is so important to healing.

I know how pressing the past two years have been the individuals that serve care. It is inspiring to see that the spark that led them into the field still burns bright in their hearts.

This experience has changed my life, bringing comfort and confidence where there was once incremental pain and concern.

Thank you!

He spoke more on these topics during a recent Town Hall meeting. If you missed it, watch the recording here.

Leadership from Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital will host their Town Hall meeting on Thursday, December 23, from 12 noon to 12:30 pm to discuss these issues as they relate specifically to our hospital and take your questions. To join the conversation via Zoom, click here.

Whatever your situation, there may be things you can do that might make it easier to get through the holidays and position yourself for a hopeful beginning to the New Year. In this EAP news feature, we offer some suggestions for doing what is helpful and productive for you, instead of letting “picture perfect” holiday ideals affect you.
