BWFH celebrates National IV Nurse Day - January 25
Every year on January 25, we celebrate National IV Nurse Day. It’s a time to recognize and thank individuals who have dedicated their lives to providing patients with the best infusion care. Here at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, we appreciate our inpatient IV nurse team and our Outpatient Infusion Clinic nurses who strive to provide the best possible care to our patients each and every day.
BWFH participates in patient safety study
Published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, a new study titled “The Safety of Inpatient Health Care” finds that nearly one in four patients who are admitted to hospitals in the U.S. experience harm. Data was collected from 11 Boston-area hospitals, including Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, and underscores the importance of the ongoing work we do to improve patient safety. SheSolves Awards looking for women innovators
Mass General Brigham’s Springboard Studio is working to make healthcare more user-friendly by accelerating new ideas from abstract to impact. Its latest initiative is the SheSolves Awards. The goal of SheSolves is to increase women’s participation in healthcare innovation. Up to $25,000 in grants are being offered, as well as product development support from our Springboard team and network of mentors. SheSolves Awards are open to all Mass General Brigham employees who identify as a woman.

Data Privacy Day - January 28
In recognition of Data Privacy Day, the Information Security & Privacy Office reminds us to Keep it Safe & Secure. When you download an application or sign up for an online account, you may be asked to provide personal information (e.g., name, email, birth date, etc.) or give access to another part of your device. That data is valuable. Don’t just give it away. Remember you are not helpless when it comes to how your data is being processed and shared. Program in Clinical Effectiveness accepting applications
The 37th annual Program in Clinical Effectiveness (PCE) is now accepting non-degree applications for this summer’s program, which will run from July 5 through August 18. PCE, a joint program of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is an intensive 15-credit program designed for physician-clinicians, fellows and faculty who are seeking the quantitative and analytic skills needed for clinical research or are interested in healthcare administration.

Deadline approaching: Student loan repayment program
The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers recently announced a new statewide student loan repayment program for individuals who work in the areas of behavioral health, substance use disorder or primary care. Mass General Brigham employees may be eligible for this loan repayment program based on their role and work location. The application deadline is Monday, January 30.
Eligible roles include, but are not limited to, psychiatrists, mental health counselors, primary care physicians, nurses, substance use recovery coaches and case managers who work at community health centers, community mental health centers, psychiatric units in acute care hospitals or inpatient psychiatric hospitals.
The program offers between $12,500 and $300,000 of educational loan repayment to eligible employees in exchange for a 4- to 5-year commitment in their current role or one at another eligible institution. Learn more.
QUEST Award Program - improvement stories due January 31
Quality, Equity, Safety and Transparency. The QUEST Award Program recognizes clinical areas for outstanding efforts in quality of care, patient experience and harm prevention. Clinical teams from the inpatient units and Emergency Department at both Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital are invited to submit their one-slide improvement story focused on CAUTI, CLABSI, Falls, HAPI, Hand Hygiene or Patient Experience by Tuesday, January 31. A committee of reviewers at BWFH/BWH will evaluate each submission for improvement in outcome or process, level of collaboration and its equity-informed lens. The 2022 winner of the QUEST Award will be announced later this winter. To submit your improvement story, download this template and return it to Director of Infection Control, Clinical Compliance and Patient Safety Andrea Shellman, MHSA, CPPS.
BWFH Nursing Awards - nominations accepted through February 17
Each year, during National Nurses Week, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital celebrates its nurses with awards recognizing excellence in critical thinking, commitment to patient teaching, continuing education, outstanding delivery of patient- and family-centered care with compassion and dignity and evidence-based practice, as well as the contributions of our support staff.
