Men's Health Center to expand

Clinical Growth and Financial Strength

Men’s Health Week, celebrated each June during the week leading up to and including Father’s Day, raises awareness of preventable health problems and encourages early detection and treatment of disease among males. Over the years, the response to Men’s Health Week has grown. There are hundreds of Men’s Health Week activities in the United States and around the globe. This heightened awareness of men’s health issues is apparent at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital where the Men’s Health Center, opened in 2015, has outgrown its space.

In the Men’s Health Center, currently located in Suite 4N, physicians provide specialized and comprehensive care tailored to men. The state-of-the-art facility was originally established to meet the growing demand for services that address common but troubling health issues that can significantly impact quality of life, such as delayed, absent or premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, low sexual desire, low testosterone and Peyronie’s disease.

Three years later, the demand for these services has only increased. As a result, the Men’s Health Center is moving to a new suite just down the hall at BWFH. In the new suite, which will be open five days per week, the medical team will continue to offer all the services currently available and more.

Board-certified and fellowship-trained urologist Dr. Michael O’Leary, who leads the medical team in the Men’s Health Center, is excited for the opportunities the new space will afford. “We currently offer several surgical and non-surgical treatment options for erectile dysfunction,” says Dr. O’Leary. “In the new suite, we hope to be able to offer even more options to our patients.”

One of those treatment options Dr. O’Leary is considering is an office-based procedure that uses low-intensity shock waves. “It increases stem cell growth at the level of the blood vessels,” he explains. “It’s a novel treatment that I find very interesting. I hope we’re able to offer it to our patients in the very near future.”

Dr. O’Leary also plans to offer a new procedure called Penuma. “This recently FDA-approved surgically implanted device is designed to enhance penile size,” he explains. “We will be offering it to carefully selected men in the fall.”

The new suite is scheduled to be open by fall of 2018. Click here to read more about the Men’s Health Center.
