Meet the lab’s newest team members

The laboratory at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital provides a wide range of services to all hospital inpatients and many outpatients. The staff in the laboratory produces nearly 5,000 results per day! To help it all run smoothly, the team recently welcomed two new supervisors.

Erica Lombardo is a graduate of UMass Dartmouth where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science. Upon graduation, she began her career in the Blood Bank at Massachusetts General Hospital. She remains on staff there as a per diem Medical Technologist, but now serves as Blood Bank Supervisor at BWFH.

“I was ready for the next phase of my career and the position at BWFH seemed like a good fit for my first role as supervisor,” she says. “Even though its smaller than MGH, I have already learned so much from being here. It’s all about the people I work with. They’re the ones who are going to help me succeed in this position.”

When she is not at work, Lombardo enjoys spending time with friends, riding her Peloton and traveling. Over the summer she traveled to Paris and is now planning a trip to Greece.

Kelli Purchase earned her bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology at Thomas Jefferson University. She has over 20 years of clinical laboratory experience in various settings, both inpatient and outpatient. She is currently enrolled in an MBA program, which she hopes to finish in the spring of 2023. For the last year she has worked as a per diem Laboratory Technician here at BWFH, but recently took on the full-time role of Clinical Chemistry Supervisor.

“Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, I needed a fresh start and a mental reset. BWFH was the right choice for me,” she says. “As the Clinical Chemistry Supervisor, I love mentoring new techs as well as discussing the philosophy of quality control. I’ve enjoyed meeting some new colleagues at BWFH, as well as catching up with friends from the past.”

When she is not at work or catching up on schoolwork, Purchase, who is mom to two sons, enjoys spending time in her gardens and at her camp in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire.
