I CARE recipient helps locate missing wheelchair for patient in need

Maxine Klenicki I CARE Award

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Social Work Manager Maxine Klenicki, MSW, LICSW, was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Klenicki was nominated for her I CARE Award by Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services Cori Loescher, MM, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, for the extra efforts she made to help a patient in need.

In her nomination, Loescher wrote:

A homeless wheelchair bound patient was brought in to the Emergency Department by ambulance and his sole means of mobility, his electric wheelchair, was left at the MBTA station. Maxine spent a countless amount of time tracking down with EMS where he was picked up, what happened to his wheelchair and then the MBTA Lost and Found Department to locate the chair. She was then told it needed to be picked up that day. Maxine reached out to Fallon Ambulance to ask if a chair car could help in picking up the wheelchair. Fallon Ambulance had the chair delivered to the ICU. The patient was so happy and thankful that his life line, the wheelchair, was returned to him safely.

For Klenicki, receiving an I CARE Award was very meaningful. “I’m honored to receive the I CARE Award, but feel uncomfortable accepting it without putting the focus back on all of our social workers who put in so much time and effort to improve the lives of our patients,” she says. “The reward is often in knowing we made a difference.”

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit Vitals. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Cafe. At the end of the year, all I CARE Award recipients will be invited to a reception.
