Food pantry drive benefits local residents

Food pantry donations

Community Health and Wellness Assistant Katie Plante delivers donations to the First Church Food Pantry in Jamaica Plain with help from Marketing and Public Affairs Web and Multimedia Specialist Caitlyn Slowe.

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Department recently reached out to the hospital community to collect food and other items to benefit the First Church Food Pantry in Jamaica Plain.

Community Health and Wellness Assistant Katie Plante, who organized the drive, manned the donation tables and delivered the donations to the church, says she was blown away by the hospital staff’s willingness to chip in. “I am always impressed by how generous our staff members can be,” she says. “For this food drive people seemed so happy to donate, especially because their donations are going to a neighborhood charity that helps our very own patients.”

Donations included non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta and rice as well as cooking oils, hygiene products, female sanitary supplies and reusable shopping bags, for which the staff at the First Church Food Pantry were very grateful.
