Director of Inpatient Psychology and Training presents poster at national conference

At the 2022 Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) Membership Conference held recently in San Diego, APPIC members gathered to explore the theme “Social Responsiveness in Health Service Psychology Training: Embracing Transformational Change.” Among the presenters was Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Director of Inpatient Psychology and Training Christopher AhnAllen, PhD, who shared his poster titled “Teaching Psychologist Supervisors to Develop a Lifelong Learning Mindset to Use Competency Benchmarks with Graduate Psychology Trainees.”

“Our project explores the importance of lifelong learning as applied to clinical supervision competencies in psychology,” says Dr. AhnAllen. “Our research concludes psychologist supervisors and trainees report high levels of attainment of learning objectives during supervision workshops and that supervision workshops are extremely useful in practice and professional development. We have also found that workshop learners have a high level of personal interest in expanding an integration of multicultural components of supervision in their practice, indicating the ongoing need for training programs to support culturally competent supervisory practice.”

The mission of the APPIC is to facilitate access, foster development and support implementation of quality education and training in health service psychology. In the service of this mission, APPIC offers products and services to benefit APPIC-member internship and postdoctoral programs, doctoral program associates seeking to place students in those programs and students in health service psychology seeking training in such programs.

“It was an honor to be asked to present at such an important event,” says Dr. AhnAllen. “I truly believe in the mission of the APPIC and was happy to share my work as well as learn from my peers.”
