DFCI/BWH Blood Mobile Visits BWFH

Blood Mobile

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile―the traveling extension of the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center―recently visited Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital giving employees and members of the community the opportunity to give blood to support patients undergoing cancer treatments, accident victims, transplant recipients and more.

At the event, coordinated by Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Assistant Katie Plante, 21 donors volunteered yielding 18 units of blood, of which three were O negative, six were O positive and five were A positive. The blood collected can benefit at least 38 patients. Those who donated were treated to a Kraft Family Blood Donor Center umbrella as a thank you gift.

“It can be challenging around this time of year to keep up our blood supply due to summer holidays being just around the corner, and donors being unable to come in because of vacations. The turnout at BWFH this month will help us to sustain our blood supply as we enter into this time of low inventory, allowing the blood bank to continue to supply the lifesaving products patients need to survive,” says Jenna Caskie, Blood Donor Recruiter for the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center. “We are so grateful to everyone who came out to donate.”

If you missed your chance to donate blood this time, don’t worry. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile will return to BWFH on Tuesday, July 24!
